I’ve always avoided confrontation, striving to keep the peace. But when I think of figures like Stephen, Apostle Paul, and Saint Polycarp—who endured torture and death for their unwavering faith—I am shaken to my core. Would I have the courage to face such trials?
Becoming a Christian transformed my heart and habits, but the hardest part has been losing long-time friends whom I loved, friends who turned away. While God has provided new relationships, the pain still lingers, especially in my struggle as a people pleaser. Though my experiences pale in comparison to others' persecution, I am in awe of those who endured so much.
Like gold refined in the fire, our faith is purified through hardship, revealing its true worth. In the midst of this, I am reminded that I cannot let Jesus be the "elephant in the room." Faith demands not only belief but boldness to stand firm. This piece reflects the inner tension between fear and the courage to profess Christ, no matter the cost.
“Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice insofar as you share Christ's sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed.
