Pop Art, by nature, elevates everyday objects and celebrities, reflecting the icons and trends society celebrates. As I dove into the Pop Art style, I quickly found myself puzzled. If Jesus were a pop culture icon, wouldn’t His image be right alongside Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, and soup cans? I experimented with different ideas of Jesus within that iconic rectangle frame, but it felt forced, disconnected from the vibe of what you'd see on social media and in pop culture.

This work is not just a critique of society but a self-reflection on my own misplaced pursuits. It raises questions about our choices: If Jesus had an Instagram, would I still follow the same accounts? How much of my energy is spent chasing validation, vanity, and worldly status? For years, I sat in the church, claiming faith while my heart was lost in the pursuit of self-worth. This piece is a reminder of the idols that divert us from the true source of fulfillment and the challenge of creating heart space for what truly matters.

“For though they knew God, they did not glorify him as God or show gratitude. Instead, their thinking became worthless, and their senseless hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man, birds, four-footed animals, and reptiles.” Romans 1: 21-23
